About the exhibition:

“Shifting Identities” explores the profound impact of the Partition of the Indian subcontinent on four distinct textile traditions of the region, shedding light on how they evolved in response to the changed socio-political landscape. It reflects on the themes of identity, traditions and resilience, while engaging with textiles as vessels of memory, carrying the stories of the diverse communities associated with them.

Curator’s Bio:

Archi Banerjee is a designer, craft researcher, and scholar specializing in South Asian art history, with a focus on living traditions and textile crafts. A MEAD Fellow from UAL with a Master’s from London College of Fashion, her research examines the impact of the Partition on the subcontinent’s craft communities. Through immersive fieldwork, curation projects and critical writing, she explores craft heritage, cultural continuity, and the evolving narratives of displacement and identity in South Asia.

Deena Pindoria is a visual artist exploring the intersections of tradition, history, and community collaboration, with a focus on Ajrakh block printing and natural dyes. Her work engages with traditional textiles, architectural motifs, and evolving cultural narratives, drawing from her collaborations with artisan communities in Kachchh. She has exhibited at prestigious platforms such as Art Dubai, Art Mumbai, Art Brussels, and DCAW, and has been recognized with awards like the Space118 Fine Art Grant and the Kala Sakshi Art Scholarship.
