We are delighted to announce Free Tim Young, an easter workshop by Sofia Karim, facilitated by Akshay Mahajan.
Date: 19 April 2025, Saturday
Time: 4.00 pm – 7.00 pm
About:
This Easter workshop invites participants to engage in a meaningful act of creative solidarity through art and storytelling. Inspired by the life and wrongful imprisonment of Tim Young, a death row inmate in California, the workshop explores the metaphor of the egg as both a symbol of confinement and renewal. Using simple materials like card templates, scissors, straw, and glue, participants will create sculptural forms that encourage empathy and imagination while engaging with Tim’s story.
The workshop is part of the Free Tim Young campaign, an international movement led by artist and activist Sofia Karim in collaboration with Tim Young. The campaign uses art, architecture, and collective action to shed light on Tim’s case and the broader injustices of the prison industrial complex. It seeks to build cross-border solidarities through creative resistance, engaging artists, activists, and communities in India, Bangladesh, Chile, and beyond.
