About The Event

Talk by Made in Earth’s Shruthi Ramakrishna and Agnimitra Poornima Bachi. Made In Earth Collective is a team of artisans, architects and designers, all fundamentally makers at heart. Based in the Cauvery belt, in Southern India. The Collective is deeply committed to reviving and integrating local traditions and ecological wisdom.

They are passionate about the natural and the bio-sourced and love to indulge in conversations between the obvious and the obscure, the community and the craftsmen, between the material and the maker.

The Future Will Be Sown is a movement that inspires us to embrace ‘an innovative architecture of the heart,’ reimagining worlds not by extracting from the environment, but by honoring the delicate balance between nature and people, thereby nurturing our material cultures alongside the ecologies that surround us.

At the core of this journey lies a desire to merge design with the authenticity of regional cultures, weaving architecture, art, and ecology into a profound harmony.

We have travelled along the banks of the river Cauvery, as it winds through rolling hills, fertile plains, arid shrublands, and forests of southern India. Further south, guided by a boatman from Alleppey, we ventured into the depths of the backwaters of the Kuttanad region. Each of these experiences is studded with memories that have become timeless treasures. Along the way, we have witnessed the magic that unfolds in the meeting of craftsmen, makers, and everyday people, each with their own stories deeply connected to their land.

Through The Future Will Be Sown, we explore the joy of co-creation. It is time to celebrate, we are capable of incredible things when people come together.
