About The Event

Join Alakananda Nag and Chinmay Tumbe for a thought-provoking conversation on ‘The Archive as a Point of Departure: Navigating Absences and New Narratives’.

DETAILS:
Date: 08 March 2025 | Saturday
Time: 6.30 pm Onwards

The discussion will examine how archives shape history not only through what they preserve but also through what they omit—creating space for new perspectives and possibilities.

What do archives leave out? And how can those omissions become starting points for new narratives?

Alakananda Nag and Chinmay Tumbe will explore these questions in a conversation. The discussion will delve into how archives influence our understanding of history—not just through what they document, but through what they leave unsaid—opening avenues for reinvention and new interpretations of archival practice.

Alakananda Nag is a photographer, writer, archive nerd, and former Cannes Lions Gold winning filmmaker. She graduated in Documentary Photography and photojournalism from International Center of Photography in New York.

Chinmay Tumbe loves to laugh and learn. He is a faculty member in the Economics Area of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad and the author of India Moving: A History of Migration (2018) and The Age of Pandemics, 1817-1920: How they shaped India and the world (2020).
