Swarna Chitrakar is a Patachitra artist from Pingla village in West Bengal. She belongs to a family of Patuas which practices a unique folk art of painting & storytelling through songs. Swarna learned scroll painting and Patua music from her father in her childhood and has been practicing since then. Over the last two decades, she has been critically acclaimed across India and has showcased her art in the US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Sweden.
In this session, Swarna Chitrakar and her husband Shambhu Chitrakar will perform the folk art of Patachitra by narrating mythological stories, social issues, and folklore through their paintings on canvas and singing the Patua sangeet to explain the significant story behind the artwork.
