Arthshila Curatorial Fellowship
We are excited to announce the two recipients of our Arthshila Curatorial Fellowship in 2024!
GAABA (@gabaa_community) is an artists-led centre situated in Santiniketan, Birbhum with four fellow practitioners, – Himangshu Sarma, Ritushree Mondal, Rabiul Khan and Surajit Mudi, is an independent space for interdisciplinary and research-based engagement and collaborative art practice that explores alternative methodologies of community conversations with archive and making.
For this research-based curatorial fellowship, GABAA intends to delve deeper into the history of Kantha making and the present-day position of these homemakers who are still in this practice. How Kantha making can be a site for conversations, and communal engagement and at the same time counters its history of domestic structure. They aim to respond and curate a site where the making of an archive, through learning and sharing, will take place in conversation and collaboration with these makers and Arthshila Santiniketan.
Swagata Khan, a postgraduate in English and Digital Humanities and Cultural Informatics from Jadavpur University plans to undertake a narrative cartography project by which an interactive QGIS map of Santiniketan & Sriniketan will be made. This QGIS map would incorporate history, memoirs, and audio-visual texts pertaining to the significant locations of this place, put together as many scattered resources about this place as possible and thereby make an open source interactive guide to Santiniketan and places around.
