DETAILS:
15 January 2025 | Wednesday
5 pm onwards

At Santiniketan Rabindranath Tagore and his associates attempted to create a distinctive cultural space and community. Memoirs written by individuals who participated in that project, indicate that it was a creative endeavour in which memories, aspirations and imagination played a significant role. Through an exploration of the themes or tropes present in some of these memoirs, this talk will revisit the imagined community of Santiniketan. It will focus on how that idea is articulated.

Speaker bio:

Dr. Chanda is a fourth-generation resident of Santiniketan and an alumnus of Tagore’s school and university. He has done extensive research on the history of place and it’s enduring cultural heritage. He completed his PhD from the department of English, Jadavpur University on Tagore’s experimental Ashram community. In 2011, he was awarded the Inklaks Research Travel Grant by Inklaks Shivdasani Foundation.
