What makes an artist? What makes their art? The medium they choose, the subject, the material, their life experiences, their mentors and fellow travellers, their political conviction… How do these find expression into what the artist brings to this world?
In 1991 Somnath Hore, wrote a quasi-autobiographical essay, Amar Chitro Bhabana (My Concept of Art), in which he explores such questions within the context of his life experiences in the social, personal and political spheres. This film is a reading of the life and art of Somnath Hore as shared in this essay and some other writings. Shivani Monga is the Founder & Creative Director of Katapult Films. With over a decade and a half of experience, she has directed films across genres and formats including documentary, fiction, animation and episodic audio programming.
