๐ฆ๐ต๐ถ๐ณ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ป๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ฒ๐ explores the profound impact of the Partition on four distinct textile traditions, their makers as well as wearers, shedding light on how they evolved in response to the changed socio-political landscape and cultural shifts in light of the Partition. Moving away from evaluating textile objects as historic artefacts and templates of technique, this exhibition showcases textiles as a repository of memory, identifier of change and continuity, and a testament to the enduring spirit of the communities they are connected to. ‘Shifting Identities’ also invites all to remind ourselves that traditions are not frozen in timeโthey are living practices that evolve, responding to the needs, challenges, hopes and influences of the diverse communities involved with them.
๐๐ฟ๐ฐ๐ต๐ถ ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ท๐ฒ๐ฒ is a designer, craft researcher, and scholar specializing in South Asian art history, with a focus on living traditions and textile crafts. A MEAD Fellow from UAL with a Masterโs from London College of Fashion, her research examines the impact of the Partition on the subcontinentโs craft communities. Through immersive fieldwork, curation projects and critical writing, she explores craft heritage, cultural continuity, and the evolving narratives of displacement and identity in South Asia.
