The exhibition is an extraordinary visual journey through the heart of rural India. This exhibition is the culmination of an immersive photography workshop held in the idyllic surroundings of Narendrapur village in Siwan district, Bihar under the mentorship of accomplished photographer and designer Parthiv Shah. The aim was to capture these villages’ evolving landscapes and intricate social fabrics, highlighting the impact of urbanization and migration on traditional lifestyles.

Takshila invited young, enthusiastic photographers from across India to take part in the Photo Shivir workshop for a week. This decision stemmed from a desire to see villages in Siwan, Bihar through fresh eyes to offer an unfiltered, authentic portrayal of rural life. The participants, selected from a competitive pool of applicants, represented diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

The exhibition showcases the collective effort of these young photographers, presenting a multifaceted story of Narendrapur and its surroundings. The images not only depict individual stories but also weave a larger narrative of rural India today. They highlight the resilience, creativity, and enduring traditions of these communities amidst changing socio-economic landscapes.

Parthiv Shah is a photographer, filmmaker and a graphic designer. He has made several documentary films, curated exhibitions and has several photo-books to his credit.

He is the Founder-Director of Centre for Media and Alternative Communication (CMAC). He has been teaching photography and film as a visiting faculty at various design and art school across India including the National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad.
