Geometry of Ajrakh Printing: A Workshop on Printing with Natural Dyes

About The Event

Aurangzeb Khatri, an Ajrakh artisan from Kutch, continues his family’s centuries-old craft of hand block printing with natural dyes. Trained by his award-winning grandfather and father, he has innovated the craft and supported the local economy. He collaborates with top designers and trains others, earning national and international recognition.

Workshop details-
There is no cost for participation (20 persons per workshop)

  • 20×20 mordanted rumal will be given to each participant.
  • You will see and hear about the natural ingredients and how they are prepared.
  • You will learn to print with perfect registration.
  • The first stage is rekh(outline) followed by datlo and then gachch the resist procedure. This is followed by Indigo dyeing.
  • Special ingredients required to be boiled will be provided to each participant to enable boiling at home.

After boiling for 1.5 hours the Ajrakh colours will emerge!
