TENT (Theatre for Experiments in New Technologies) Kolkata and Arthshila Santiniketan present ‘Body, Work, and Doing Art’ a three-day workshop on subjects of labour and art practice.
Subjects of work and labouring bodies are familiar images in art history. In the 3-day workshop ‘Body, Work, and Doing Art’, we attempt to complicate this image. We ask: how do we account for the hands which make the paint and the canvas? Or, the hands which hold the lights, the camera, the sound recorder, the editing keys, or for that matter the body that poses before the artists’ piercing eyes? What about the carpenters, welders, fabricators, electricians? How do we address the large mass of invisible labouring bodies – at work, in art works, and in practice? How do we put them back in the picture? What could be our ethical involvement and how does it reflect in our ‘work’?
