Arthshila Ahmedabad invites you for a Dialogue, ‘Before I Forget: A Memoir’ with M. K. Raina and Prabodh Parikh.

‘Before I Forget’ is a memoir by M.K. Raina that traces his accomplished career, in theatre, film and cultural activism against the backdrop of major social and political changes that occurred in India. Having been born just after independence, Raina’s life and work has been affected by major incidents like the theft at the revered Hazratbal shrine, the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, the exodus of the Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir, the murder of his close friend Safdar Hashmi and the demolition of the Babri Masjid. The book is deeply personal yet widely relevant reaffirming Raina’s belief and optimism in art as a tool for change. It is not a theoretical book, but is a book of hope for the present socio-political and cultural atmosphere that is suffocating our current times.

M.K. Raina is a well-known across India for his contributions as an actor, filmmaker and academic. Raina has directed over 160 theatre productions, and acted in more than 150 plays & a major contributor to Indian New Wave cinema. He has been decorated with the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the B.V. Karanth Lifetime Achievement Award among many others. He has been instrumental in reviving traditional folk theatre of Kashmir, Bhand Pather.

Prabodh Parikh is a Gujarati Poet, Visual Artist and a Documentary Film maker.  He has lectured on the works of various artists. Tyeb Mehta, K.G. Subramanyam, Rabindranath Tagore, Gulammohammed Sheikh and Bhupen Khakhar to name a few. He was a Charles’ Walles Trust fellow as well as a fellow at the Sorbonne University (Paris). He also has had a couple of one-man-shows in Mumbai and US.
