A campus is a place formed by its buildings but also by the spaces in between. As a campus grows, both its enclosed and open spaces gather memories transforming ‘space’ into ‘place’ with stories, character, and meaning. The IIM Bangalore campus, conceived and executed by architects Balkrishna Doshi and Achyut Kanvinde with subsequent additions by Sanjay Mohe & Medappa, exemplifies how enduring design fosters a sense of place.

The book, โ€˜๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐— ๐—ฎ๐—ธ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ผ๐—ณ ๐—ฎ ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—บ๐—ฝ๐˜‚๐˜€: ๐—œ๐—œ๐—  ๐—•๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฎ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒโ€™ shares how this campus came into being and how it has been experienced over time. Through its pages, the book reveals the thought processes, design philosophies, and the interplay between architecture and community. The narrative includes conversations with faculty, staff, startups, and alumni, highlighting “hallway conversations” in the pergola corridors and how certain spaces facilitated “open conversations within closed networks” and “serendipitous interactions.”

Using the book as a starting point, this session will explore how spaces with memories transcend functionality and time, becoming places of meaning and identity.
