The first comprehensive book on the River Padma, considered the last leg of the Ganges, with a rich collection of new photographs and maps. The Great Padma Book defines the life and history of the Bengal Delta, the largest delta in the world. The book contains original essays by well-known writers, researchers, and academics from diverse fields, including geography, history, literature, architecture, and food history.
Prof. Kazi Khaleed Ashraf is an architect, urbanist, and architectural historian and critic, working at the intersection of architecture, urbanism and landscapes. As the director general of Bengal Institute for Architecture, Landscapes and Settlements in Dhaka, Bangladesh, he has established the Institute as a leading research and design organisation in the subcontinent. Ashraf has authored books and essays on architecture in Bangladesh and India, on the work of Louis Kahn, Balkrishna Doshi, Kongjian Yu, and on other critical topics. His increasing interest is in advancing a novel urbanism in a deltaic geography. Ashraf has taught at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, University of Pennsylvania, Temple University and Pratt Institute in the USA, and lectured widely internationally.
